Atorvastatin Calcium 20 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Lipid-Lowering Agent – HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor (Statin)

Indications:
ROZTOR is indicated for:

• Reducing elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), ApoB, and triglycerides

• Increasing HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol)

• Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and familial hypercholesterolemia

• Reducing the risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients including diabetics and those with hypertension

Mechanism of Action:
Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver, thus lowering blood cholesterol levels and improving lipid profile.

Dosage and Administration:

• Usual starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily

• The dose may be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks, up to a maximum of 80 mg/day

• Can be taken with or without food, at any time of day

Warnings and Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver disease or high alcohol consumption

• Contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in active liver disease

• Monitor liver function and creatine kinase if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness occur

Side Effects:
Common side effects: headache, nausea, muscle pain, joint pain, fatigue, and elevated liver enzymes
Serious (rare): rhabdomyolysis, liver injury

Storage:
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
