Indications:
ROZTOR is indicated for:
Reducing elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), ApoB, and triglycerides
Increasing HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol)
Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and familial hypercholesterolemia
Reducing the risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients including diabetics and those with hypertension
Mechanism of Action:
Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver, thus lowering blood cholesterol levels and improving lipid profile.
Dosage and Administration:
Usual starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily
The dose may be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks, up to a maximum of 80 mg/day
Can be taken with or without food, at any time of day
Warnings and Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with liver disease or high alcohol consumption
Contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in active liver disease
Monitor liver function and creatine kinase if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness occur
Side Effects:
Common side effects: headache, nausea, muscle pain, joint pain, fatigue, and elevated liver enzymes
Serious (rare): rhabdomyolysis, liver injury
