Description:
NOVONORM contains repaglinide, a fast-acting oral antidiabetic agent used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas, especially around mealtimes, thereby helping to reduce postprandial (after meal) blood glucose levels.
Indications:
Treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults, particularly where blood sugar control cannot be achieved by diet and exercise alone.
Often used in combination with other antidiabetic medications like metformin.
Dosage and Administration:
The typical starting dose is 0.5 to 1 mg before each main meal.
For patients previously treated with other oral hypoglycemic agents, the starting dose may be 1–2 mg.
Dose adjustments are based on individual response, up to a maximum of 4 mg per meal (16 mg/day).
Should be taken 15–30 minutes before meals.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe liver dysfunction
Hypersensitivity to repaglinide or any component of the product
Warnings and Precautions:
Risk of hypoglycemia, especially if meals are skipped or delayed.
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Monitor blood glucose levels regularly.
