Description:
NovoNorm 0.5 mg contains repaglinide, an oral antidiabetic medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin and helps control blood sugar levels, particularly after meals.
Indications:
Management of type 2 diabetes in adults whose blood sugar levels cannot be adequately controlled by diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone.
Can be used in combination with metformin when monotherapy with metformin is insufficient.
Dosage and Administration:
Starting dose: 0.5 mg taken before each main meal.
Dosage may be adjusted based on the individual's blood glucose response, with possible weekly or biweekly increments.
Maximum single dose: 4 mg; maximum total daily dose: 16 mg.
Tablets should be taken 15–30 minutes before meals.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe liver impairment
Concurrent use with gemfibrozil
Known hypersensitivity to repaglinide or any component of the formulation
Warnings and Precautions:
Risk of hypoglycemia; regular monitoring of blood glucose is recommended.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age due to insufficient safety data.
Alcohol may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
