Indications:
LIVAZO is indicated for:
Treatment of primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
Reducing elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), and triglycerides
Increasing HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol)
Reducing cardiovascular risk in patients with risk factors such as type 2 diabetes or existing coronary heart disease
Mechanism of Action:
Pitavastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the key enzyme in hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis. This results in reduced cholesterol production and increased clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.
Dosage and Administration:
Recommended starting dose: 1–2 mg once daily, with or without food
The dose may be adjusted up to a maximum of 4 mg/day depending on response and tolerance
Monitor lipid levels periodically
Warnings and Precautions:
Contraindicated in active liver disease and during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, history of muscle disorders, or high alcohol intake
Monitor liver enzymes and creatine kinase (CK) if muscle symptoms occur
Side Effects:
Common: myalgia, back pain, constipation, diarrhea, headache
Rare but serious: rhabdomyolysis, liver enzyme elevations
