NORVASC 5 mg Capsules (30s)
Active Ingredient: Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to 5 mg Amlodipine
Therapeutic Class: Calcium Channel Blocker (Dihydropyridine)
Dosage Form: Oral capsule

Indications:

NORVASC is indicated for the treatment of:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure) – helps lower blood pressure to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks

• Chronic stable angina – to reduce chest pain frequency and improve exercise tolerance

• Vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s angina)

Mechanism of Action:

Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells, leading to peripheral arterial vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. In angina, it reduces oxygen demand and improves blood flow to the heart.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Initial dose is typically 5 mg once daily

• May be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily depending on the clinical response

• Can be taken with or without food

• Use caution in elderly or patients with hepatic impairment

Warnings and Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, heart failure, or aortic stenosis

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical supervision

• Monitor for signs of peripheral edema, particularly at higher doses

Side Effects:

Common: peripheral edema, dizziness, headache, fatigue, flushing
Less common: palpitations, abdominal pain, nausea, rash, hypotension

Storage:

Store below 30°C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
