Therapeutic Class: Osmotic Laxative
Indications: Movicol is used for the treatment of chronic constipation in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. It is also indicated for the treatment of faecal impaction diagnosed by a healthcare professional.
Mechanism of Action: Macrogol 3350 works by retaining water in the bowel through osmotic action. This softens the stool and increases its volume, stimulating a natural bowel movement without causing cramps or urgency.
Dosage and Administration: For constipation, the usual dose is 1 to 3 sachets daily dissolved in water. For faecal impaction, higher doses may be used under medical supervision. Each sachet should be dissolved in approximately 125 ml of water before intake.
