Therapeutic Class: Oral Antidiabetic – SGLT2 Inhibitor

Description:
JARDIANCE contains empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood sugar by increasing glucose excretion through urine. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes and has shown benefits in reducing cardiovascular risks.

Indications:

• Treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults as an adjunct to diet and exercise

• Reduces risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease

Dosage:

• One tablet (10 mg) once daily in the morning, with or without food

• Dose adjustment based on kidney function

Contraindications:

• Type 1 diabetes

• Diabetic ketoacidosis

• Severe renal impairment

• Hypersensitivity to empagliflozin

Warnings:

• Risk of urinary tract and genital infections

• Monitor kidney function and hydration

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Side Effects:

• Increased urination

• Genital infections

• Thirst and dizziness
