Description:
Janumet XR combines sitagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide, to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin enhances the body’s own ability to lower blood glucose by increasing incretin levels. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity.
Indications:
For adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise.
Suitable for monotherapy or as part of a combination therapy regimen.
Dosage and Administration:
Typical dose: One tablet once daily with the evening meal.
Tablets must be swallowed whole with water; do not split, crush, or chew.
Adjust dosage based on patient’s glycemic response and renal function.
Maximum daily dose: sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Moderate to severe renal impairment
Known hypersensitivity to sitagliptin, metformin, or any component of the tablet
Warnings and Precautions:
Monitor kidney function before and during treatment
Risk of lactic acidosis, especially in renal dysfunction
Use with caution in liver impairment or heavy alcohol use
Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation
Possible Side Effects:
Nausea and diarrhea

Respiratory tract infections
