Indications:
INEGY is indicated for:
The treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), in combination with other lipid-lowering treatments
Patients not adequately controlled with statin therapy alone
It reduces total cholesterol, LDL-C, ApoB, and triglycerides while increasing HDL-C.
Mechanism of Action:
Ezetimibe inhibits the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine, while Simvastatin inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Their complementary mechanisms provide a synergistic lipid-lowering effect.
Dosage and Administration:
One tablet once daily, in the evening, with or without food.
Patients should follow a cholesterol-lowering diet.
Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with renal impairment or when used with interacting medications.
Warnings and Precautions:
Contraindicated in active liver disease or persistent elevations in liver enzymes
Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Monitor liver function and creatine kinase (CK) if muscle symptoms occur
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, myalgia, fatigue, and elevated liver enzymes. Rare but serious effects include rhabdomyolysis and liver injury.
