Indications:

CARDURA is used for the treatment of:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – to relieve urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement

Mechanism of Action:

Doxazosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, leading to:

• Vasodilation of blood vessels → lowering blood pressure

• Relaxation of smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate → improving urine flow in BPH

Dosage and Administration:

• Initial dose: Usually 1 mg once daily

• Maintenance dose: May be increased gradually to 4–8 mg once daily depending on patient response

• Should be taken at the same time each day, preferably in the evening

• Monitor blood pressure regularly to avoid postural hypotension

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness

• Fatigue

• Headache

• Postural hypotension (drop in blood pressure when standing)

• Palpitations

Warnings and Precautions:

• Use caution in patients with hepatic impairment

• May cause drowsiness or fainting, especially after the first dose

• Not recommended for use in children
