AMOPRESS is indicated for the treatment of:
Hypertension (high blood pressure) – to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack
Chronic stable angina
Vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) angina
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This leads to vasodilation, decreased peripheral resistance, and reduced blood pressure. In angina, it improves myocardial oxygen delivery.
Adults: Initial dose is 5 mg once daily; may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on patient response
Can be taken with or without food
No dose adjustment typically needed in elderly or patients with mild hepatic impairment, but caution is advised
Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, heart failure, or aortic stenosis
May cause peripheral edema, especially at higher doses
Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice
Monitor blood pressure regularly
Common: swelling of ankles/feet (peripheral edema), headache, dizziness, flushing, fatigue
Less common: palpitations, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, hypotension
Store below 30°C. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
