Description:
Amaryl contains glimepiride, an oral antidiabetic agent used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells and improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin, helping to reduce blood glucose levels.

Indications:

• Used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone do not provide adequate glycemic control.

• Can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin or insulin.

Dosage and Administration:

• Initial dose: 1 mg once daily with breakfast or the first main meal.

• Dose adjustments should be based on the patient’s blood glucose response.

• Maximum recommended daily dose: 8 mg.

• Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, not chewed or crushed.

Contraindications:

• Type 1 diabetes mellitus

• Diabetic ketoacidosis

• Severe renal or hepatic dysfunction

• Known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas

Warnings and Precautions:

• Risk of hypoglycemia; blood glucose should be monitored regularly.

• Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

• Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.

• Alcohol may enhance the hypoglycemic effect.
